JOURNEY HOME

Funded by an artist-initiated Calgary Arts Development grant, this mural explores the meaning of "home" according to those who have experienced being unhoused.

I asked the residents of the Calgary Dream Centre what "home" means to them, and they responded with spoken stories, written poems, photographs and drawings. They shared their past experiences and also their future dreams, and this is my attempt to honour their experience.
When the project was finished, we celebrated with a banquet for the contributing residents and their families.

I'm thankful for all the generosity I was shown during this project, and for what I learned about the experiences of many Calgarians.
