This mural series tells the remembered history of the soil at the intersection of Memorial Drive, Edmonton Trail and Reconciliation Bridge. The images come out of over 200 hours of consultation with residents, local business owners and Indigenous elders from the Blackfoot Confederacy.
My hope with this project is to inspire the question "what do we want the land to remember?"
For this project I consulted with Siksika elder Ka'tay'i'ta'toosi Bryan Little Chief. He gave formative insight on how to talk about the land and I'm deeply thankful for his investment in me.
I also talked with elder Rod Scout, who gave spoken accounts of Blackfoot history and Bridgeland resident and historian Deb Lee who gave photographs and written accounts of the settler history.
In addition, many other Bridgeland residents, business owners and inhabitants gave invaluable perspectives and memories of this storied intersection of roads and river.
